Move and Re-order Folders

Move and Re-order Folders

Introduction

Users can reorder or move folders within the folder hierarchy using the drag-and-drop operation across all modules. The Folder Order/Sorting setting is available under the Project Configuration. Project Administrators can enable custom folder ordering for the project, allowing teams to maintain a folder sequence that aligns with their testing workflow.

Use Case: During the planning phase, the QA team wants to rearrange sub-folders within a parent folder to ensure the test cases align with the product development timeline. This alignment ensures the folder structure mirrors the product's feature development, improving both organization and navigation efficiency.

This feature allows testers to reorder sub-folders when the folder structure becomes disorganized due to the addition of new features, helping to avoid planning and navigation difficulties caused by a cluttered structure.

Business Rules

The rules are applicable as per the Folder Order/Sorting Configuration described in the next section.

  • The folder can be moved to:

    • A different position within the same hierarchy level.

    • A different hierarchy level, such as a sub-folder within another folder.

    • A folder at a higher level (elevating it to a parent level).

  • Users can drag and drop a parent folder to a different location within the folder tree.

    • The entire sub-folder hierarchy is moved along with the parent folder to the new location.

    • After the move, the sub-folders maintain relationships and order relative to the parent folder.

  • The folder order will be preserved for the module for all the users.

Folder Order/Sorting Configuration

Only the Project Admin can set the Folder Oder/Sorting configuration from QMetry > Configuration > Project Configuration > Folder Order/Sorting. Refer to Folder Order/Sorting for more details on configuration.
